The weekend of May 16-18, 2013

The Paralympic and able body track and field athletes both headed to the Grand Canyon State for competition.
The Paralympic competed at the Desert Challenge in Mesa, AZ and the able body athletes competed about 100 miles away at the Tucson Elite Invitational.

At the Desert Challenge in the 100m David Brown with guide Rolland Slade ran 11.83, Lex Gillette competing with guide runner Wes Williams ran 12.67, Josiah Jamison ran 12.00, and Blake Leeper ran 11.55. In the 200m Sabra Hawkes ran 33.91, Josiah Jamison ran 22.94, Blake Leeper ran 23.2. In the 400m Sabra Hawkes ran 1:16.86, Markeith Price ran 51.96, and Rob Brown ran 54.65.
   In the field events Lex Gillete jumped 6.57m and Markeith Price jumped 6.46 which were both seasonal best in the long jump.

At the Tucson Elite which was a two day competition on Thursday and Saturday many seasonal bests were produced.
Kiani Profit had personal best in the Javelin of 41,.94 meters and shot put 12.33m. Shana Woods had a seasonal best in the shot put of 11.91m. Joe Kovacs moved into the top ten in the world with a seasonal best of 20.82m and Eric Werskey threw 19.81m showing his consistency as he has thrown over his previous personal best on a weekly basis. In the Javelin Olympians Craig Kinsley and Sean Furey opened their season throwing 74.75 and 73.15 meters. Long jumpers Tyron Stewart 7.99m, Ronald Taylor 7.98m, and Ronald Brookins had seasonal best of 7.69m. In the hammer throw Britney Henry threw 69.35m and Kristin Smith threw a seasonal best of 63.58m. Straight off a plane from her graduation from San Diego State Whitney Ashley threw 56.76m in the discus.
