Outdoor has begun!

Nine athletes from the Chula Vista Olympic Training Center competed Friday and Saturday, March 27-28, at the Aztec Invitational hosted by San Diego State University. This competition marked the beginning of the outdoor season for all of the athletes, with many strong performances from both able-bodied athletes and Paralympians. Highlights of the meet were efforts from javelin throwers Sean Furey and Craig Kinsley. The duo both topped the previous meet record of 75.44m with marks of 80.00m and 76.57m respectively. Additional performances by the Chula Vista group included Kiani Profit in the 100m hurdles (14.38).

David Brown, the current world record holder in the 100m for T11 Paralympians, set the bar high with a fantastic performance in the event on Friday. Accompanied by guide runner, Jerome Avery, the two won the heat with a time of 11.12. Akheel Whitehead also competed in the event, posting a time of 12.45. Efforts from Markeith Price in the long jump (6.37m) and the 200m (23.37) show great promise for the upcoming season. Michael "Mike Mike" Murray opened up running the 400m in 51.23 a new personal best.
The multi event athletes will be competing next at the Sam Adams Multi in Santa Barbara, April 4-5, and all other athletes can be seen performing at the Rafer Johnson JJK meet at UCLA and the Sun Angel Classic in Phoenix, AZ, April 11-12.
